Summary of the JB Skating Style
Old School - During this time, there were no remixes to the music nor the skate style. There were moves created such as the Buckey Walk, Long step/short step, the Big Wheel, Stan The Man, Low Shuffle, The Ga-Ga, & Many More. There was a bliss of smoothness in this era that showed the simplicity and originality of the style. Many skaters who’ve skated during this period rarely skates due to age. They are hard rollers and created what we do today in Chicago. There are many sets that you can visit to see the older crowd still rolling hard in action!
Middle School - The middle-school era of JB skatin’ introduced a lot of new producers & music. This was the birth of a new era which concluded in a lot of advanced skaters taking time to branch out to different cities & skate parties. Many middle school skaters are the reason why Chicago skaters have been recognized and seen. There are many remixes of classic songs such as James Brown - Escape-Ism, Blue’s Pants, Led Zeppelin - Kashmir, a lot of Barry White and many more!
New School - The new generation coming in changes the dynamic of roller skating. They are full of energy and style which creates a ton of variations of different JB skating techniques. The fundamentals are kept however; the style transforms into a high burst of energy with technical skate moves. Not to mention, the music plays a big part! Ever since the pandemic hit, there has been a large influx of skaters coming in to be apart of the skate culture. The Creator of JBSkateChicago is considered Late Era Middle School/Early Era New School. When you are watching those skate in Chicago, it is easy to pin-point who came from which era!
